Tired Drummer

by Jonathan Mhondorohuma

40h x 15w x 20d cm 20lbs.

Jonathan was born in December 1974 in Mvurwi.  He is the youngest of four children. Their family totem is the heart.

Jonathan is married to Faith and together they have three children; two boys and one little girl.

Jonathan started sculpting with stone as a very young boy of ten.  He loved creating and in 1989 Jonathan’s good friend, Square Chikwanda invited him to Tenegenenge sculpture village. He agreed and spent 6 months learning the basics.  Jonathan then moved to Harare, where a chance meeting with the master first-generation sculptor Joseph Ndandarika led to the artists working together.  The late Ndandarika is widely regarded as one of the greatest sculpting talents Zimbabwe has ever known, and Mhondorohuma was privileged to work with him until his death in 1991.

By 1997 Jonathan had established his name.  He was invited to join the Artist Residence program at the prestigious Chapungu Sculpture Centre, and a close relationship with the gallery remains today.
