Meet the Canadian artist

Marie-Michèle Desmarais grew up near the Granby Zoo, where daily morning strolls with her parents sparked a lifelong fascination with animals. She went on to graduate as a speech therapist and also studied Fine Arts at Concordia University, where an inspiring teacher helped her refine her drawing techniques and skills.

In her work with children who have speech difficulties, she uses movement and images creatively to support communication. After the birth of her first child, she brought her artistic talent and love of animals together. Unable to find the decor she imagined for her baby's room, she began drawing adorable baby animals. Her daughter talked to them and wished them good night, and visiting friends soon began requesting their favourite animals. the artist’s collection was born.
